The Maison of Student Employability

p r ie oa rl ity

Employability is a top priority across higher education, for students and institutions alike. The skills gap between higher education and the professional world remains widely reported.

Both statements hold at the same time. HELFFE was built to resolve that paradox.

Our definition of employability

Ready today. Adaptable tomorrow.

Ready today.

Being ready today means having the right skills to meet current professional demands and to secure a first relevant job after graduation.

Adaptable tomorrow.

Being adaptable tomorrow means having the capacity to grow and remain professionally relevant as roles, industries, technologies and contexts evolve.

Our commitment to student employability covers both immediate career readiness and long-term adaptability. Those two complementary dimensions point directly to the fundamental role of higher education.

Why employability matters

Employability is the true differentiator of higher education.

The true differentiator of higher education lies in preparing students for today’s workplace while helping them build a powerful “internal skills engine” to generate new capabilities on demand. This engine will enable them to face future uncertainty and develop new capabilities to meet demands we cannot yet predict.

Levels of employability impact

Three levels of employability impact.

Educational institutions can be distinguished by the level of employability impact they create.

Talk to us about your institution ↗

Tier 3

Low Employability Impact

Students acquire academic knowledge with limited connection to real professional environments. As a result, the institution has little measurable impact on graduates’ employability.

Tier 2

Graduate Employment

Students benefit from a solid learning experience. The educational institution helps students secure a job after graduation but has limited impact on their long-term career development.

Tier 1

Real Employability

Students benefit from a transformative learning experience. The educational institution helps them secure a relevant job after graduation and develops their long-term capacity to adapt, grow and remain professionally relevant.

Overview of the employability system

Employability functions as a system.

Achieving Tier 1 employability impact requires a clear understanding of the obstacles that sustain the skills gap and limit employability in practice. HELFFE’s analysis identifies four major structural challenges.

Challenge 01

Skills Definition

The first challenge lies in how skills are conceptualised. Today’s skills landscape is increasingly fragmented, with no common structure to define and categorise skills clearly and comprehensively.

Challenge 02

Skills Development

The second challenge lies in how skills are developed. Important questions remain around which skills are most relevant in a changing world, how they should be acquired, and how learning experiences can develop them by design, with nothing left to chance.

Challenge 03

Skills Assessment

The third challenge lies in how skills are observed and judged. Credible assessment requires clearly defined skills, relevant performance contexts, appropriate evidence, and sound judgement about what that evidence can support.

Challenge 04

Skills Signalling

The fourth challenge lies in how credible skills evidence becomes visible, portable and interpretable across educational and professional contexts, with enough context, criteria and provenance for another actor to understand what was assessed and judge whether the signal deserves trust.

Why a system

The four challenges form one system.

These challenges are interdependent: a change in one area affects the others. Isolated interventions focused on a single dimension can only create partial impact. HELFFE therefore combines complementary solutions into a 360-degree response to the employability system as a whole.

Our 360-degree solution architecture

No single solution can address the employability system on its own. HELFFE therefore creates real employability impact through three complementary types of solutions.

Knowledge Resources

Knowledge Collections that bring clarity to employability: precise concepts, practical guidance and reliable reference points for learning and action.

Live Experiences

Industry Missions, Skills Ateliers and Learning Voyages: real situations where students build, prove and articulate their capabilities.

Tech Tools

AI-powered tools and interactive platforms that bring the same standard to every student, at scale.

The strength of the architecture

Each solution plays a distinct role and reinforces the other two. Together, they create stronger, more lasting employability impact and address the employability system as a whole.

Our core principles

The format may change. The standards do not.

Knowledge Resources, Live Experiences and Tech Tools take different forms, and the problem decides which form the response takes. Two principles govern every one of them: Précision and Harmonie.

Précision

The discipline of doing exactly what is needed, no more and no less.

Rigor

Evidence before conclusions.

Every claim rests on reliable evidence and reasoning strong enough for the decision.

Rules out“Studies show…” Which studies?

Excellence

Good enough is rarely good enough.

Once priorities are clear, they receive the highest level of care and execution.

Rules out“That’ll do.”

Clarity

Maximum meaning. Minimum noise.

Cut the unnecessary, strengthen the essential, and never reduce reality to fit a slide.

Rules out“Leveraging holistic synergies.”

Harmonie

The discipline of creating experiences people choose to engage with.

Empathy

People are not abstractions.

Understanding the realities behind people’s choices comes before any solution.

Rules out“Students these days…”

Experience

When engagement flows, impact follows.

Every solution is a living environment people can explore and connect with.

Rules out“Slide 47 of 112.”

Personality

Strong identities create strong connections.

People know who they are engaging with, what HELFFE stands for and what to expect.

Rules out“We are passionate about excellence.”

Who we serve

HELFFE is the Maison of student employability.

Every solution begins with one filter: does it create meaningful value for students, directly or indirectly? A negative answer ends the discussion.

  • Students

    Students grow.

Capabilities they can name, prove and keep building long after the first job.

  • Educational institutions

    Educational institutions advance.

Employability becomes a visible source of performance and differentiation.

  • Industry

    Industry thrives.

Graduates they can read, assess and trust from the first conversation.

  • Society

    Society benefits.

Graduates who stay relevant as work changes carry that value beyond one career.

Our team

Every HELFFE solution carries more than a decade of craft.

The question

HELFFE was founded by Dr. Rajaa El Mezouaghi and Dr. Marouane Khallouk, both Ph.D.s in Business Sciences from the University of Montpellier, France.

For over a decade, we have dedicated our careers to one fundamental question: how can education create meaningful and lasting employability impact?

The craft

We have taught, coached and mentored over 5,000 students across undergraduate, postgraduate and executive education. We have supervised more than 300 capstone projects, professional projects, research theses and doctoral dissertations.

We pursued this challenge at the University of Wollongong in Dubai, Montpellier Business School and Le Mans University, and within international organisations including DELL EMC and the EDF Group. Along the way, we designed learning experiences, developed employability initiatives, conducted practical research, supported entrepreneurs, and contributed to curriculum innovation, accreditation and institutional development.

Five vantage points

  • As researchers, we studied employability.
  • As educators, we developed it.
  • As mentors, we supported it.
  • Through institutional initiatives, we assessed it.
  • Through industry collaboration, we observed its outcomes.

The observation

Across thousands of students, multiple institutions and diverse professional contexts, one observation remained constant.

Employability was consistently treated as a priority, yet many structural barriers continued to prevent it from becoming a reality.

The Maison

HELFFE was created in response to this observation. It brings together the lessons, insights and observations gathered through years of teaching, research, mentoring, industry collaboration and practical experimentation. Every framework, tool and solution serves the same objective: transforming employability from priority to reality.
